After the projected victory of former President Donald Trump in the Presidential Election, the GOP could control both chambers of Congress, as well as the White House, thanks to some major victories in down-ballot races.
Republican Jim Justice won a major victory in West Virginia, and flipped the seat that is currently held by independent and former Democrat Joe Manchin. Republican Bernie Moreno has also managed to oust incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown from his Senate seat in Ohio.
Here in Texas, Senator Ted Cruz was able to easily win a third term, defeating Democratic challenger Collin Allred by nearly 10 points.
In total, as of 4:15 a.m. this morning, Republicans were able to hold 38 Senate seats, as well as gain 4 new seats, including 2 that were taken from the Democrats. In total, the GOP now has a 51-seat lead in the U.S. Senate.
Senate races in both Wisconsin and Michigan, swing states that went to Trump last night, are leaning Republican, but as of 4:15 a.m., they were still too close to call.
In the House of Representatives, Republicans are seeing very strong numbers. Big wins in Texas are contributing to a strong GOP lead in the House. Republicans currently hold 195 seats, 4 of which were taken from Democrats.
Republicans are also holding leads across multiple states, including Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, and California, but those races were still too close to call as of 4:30 a.m.
