How far could the feud between Houston Mayor John Whitmire and City Controller Chris Hollins go?

In the last week, the Mayor has called Hollins out for a conflict of interest, going so far as to use the words 'pay for play. For his part, Hollins wants an investigation into the fundraising for Whitmire's State of the City event earlier this year. Holly Hansen with The Texan says this has the attention of law enforcement.

"There are serious concerns about the way Chris Hollins has changed the nature of this investor conference; namely his incredible price increase for an individual ticket and the request for these lucrative sponsorships," Hansen said.

This is also a big political rivalry; Hollins tried to run for Mayor last year, against Whitmire but pulled out of the race because of bad polling.

"They come from different factions of the local Democratic Party. Since Whitmire took office as Mayor, we've seen quite a bit of friction," Hansen stated.

Hollins, earlier this year, managed to delay the deal Whitmire made with the Houston Firefighters on a contract, ending a nearly ten year long feud between the city and that union.
