As traditional news outlets continue to show their left-wing bias, more and more Americans are turning to social media to get their news. According to polls, most of these people are Republicans or young people.

Chris Johnson with the College Republicans told KTRH that this is to be expected. He said, "Republicans generally moving away from mainstream media is a long-time trend that doesn't really surprise me. Often times in the past, they really just didn't have anywhere to go."

Johnson said that while social media does offer a nice alternative, there are some concerns about how platforms decide what content you see. He said, "I think Twitter, now Elon Musk's X, will likely be the most consistently transparent on that, and TikTok will really have to answer some hard questions."

TikTok has faced a lot of scrutiny for its connections to the Communist Party of China and concerns that the app might be sending huge amounts of user data to the Chinese government. Legislation was recently passed that requires the Chinese company ByteDance to divest from TikTok, but that hasn't happened yet.

Johnson says that TikTok and the Chinese influence over young people are something that should be taken seriously.
