The Houston property tax hike has been put on hold, at least for now. After both Mayor John Whitmire, and City Council members came up with two competing tax increase plans, the state stepped up and will provide $50 million for disaster relief for clean-up following Derecho, and Hurricane Beryl.
The announcement came from Governor Abbott's office, prompting the Council members to withdraw their proposal.
City Council is expected to further consider the property tax rate at its Oct. 16 meeting.
Meanwhile, Harris County is still planning to raise property taxes.
