The Democrat-run Harris County Commissioners Court, led by County Judge Lina Hidalgo, is expected to vote today to raise taxes on Harris County property owners by as much as 8 percent, without any input from voters.
Normally, the county would need voter approval to raise taxes more than 3.5 percent, but a loophole in the law allows them to use Hurricane Beryl as an excuse to increase it even further. This tax hike is expected to hit voters hard. State Senator Paul Bettencourt told KTRH, "My office calculates it at being $257 per average home in Harris County, so it's a big one."
Bettencourt says the progressive leftists on the Harris County Commissioners Court have never met a tax increase they didn't like.
But that's not all— the city of Houston is also expected to vote on its own tax increase next month, so residents can expect their cost of living to rise significantly.
