With all of the concerns about energy and the grid here in Texas, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is sounding the alarm. Texas is running out of water.
"I think I'm the only statewide that's actually talking about this and ringing the alarm bell" Commissioner said, "I think people take water for granted, we just go and turn on the faucet and out it comes! But we're out of water, our state's still growing rapidly, we still have about 1,050 new Texans every day. We've maxed out."
To the point, that Texas is losing about a farm every week. But there are solutions.
"We have lost options" Miller told KTRH, "We need to build off-channel storage, we can do rain water harvesting, we can use reverse osmosis or desalination. We can do a better job, a smarter job, we just need to use a little cowboy logic."
And some new infrastructure would help as well. According to a recent report, the city of Houston has lost 36 billion gallons of water since 2023, due to leaky pipes.
