A Harris County Precinct Four Deputy Constable was shot and murdered on his way to work. The suspect is now in custody. According to reports, 50-year old Deputy Constable Maher Husseini was sitting at a stop light at the at the intersection of Fondren Road and Richmond Avenue near the Westpark Tollway. That's when the shooter got out of a charcoal colored Impala, and walked up and opened fire. The suspect then returned and fired off more shots.
The Constable, who was just promoted last week, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub hospital. Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman was visibly upset when spoke outside of the hospital, stating that the crime in Houston is out of control.
"We've got to get it fixed" Herman said, "My mentality with law enforcement is to fight, fight, fight. The only thing these criminals understand is force, and that's all I'll say."
The suspect fled to Galveston, and HPD says they were able to track the vehicle using surveillance video and were able to locate him in the Causeway after he drove his car into the water.
The suspect is now in custody.
Governor Greg Abbott, who is campaigning for former president Trump in Arizona issued a statement:
"The hearts of Texans are breaking today with the news that Harris County Deputy Constable Maher Husseini was shot and killed while on his way to work," said Governor Abbott. "The dangerous criminal who ambushed and murdered Deputy Constable Husseini will have the full weight of the law brought down upon him. Texas is a law and order state, and I will always defend the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect Texans. Cecilia and I ask our fellow Texans to join us in lifting up in prayer the family and loved ones of Deputy Constable Husseini."
