Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced that he has filed a lawsuit against the City of Dallas for illegally prohibiting State Fair attendees from carrying firearms inside the fair.

In early August, Paxton announced that he was giving the State Fair 15 days to reverse its prohibition of firearms, arguing that state law allows firearms to be carried on any land owned or leased by the state of Texas.

Attorney General Paxton has requested the court to grant injunctive relief to prevent the City of Dallas or the State Fair of Texas from enforcing the ban on firearms.

Paxton said in his statement, “Municipalities cannot nullify state law, nor can they avoid accountability by contracting official functions to nominally third parties. Neither the City of Dallas nor the State Fair of Texas can infringe on Texans’ right to self-defense."
