Tens of thousands of Houstonians are still without power after Hurricane Beryl, and many are rightly focused on CenterPoint’s failures. However, someone else was asleep at the wheel during the disaster. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is once again in hot water for her response to the storm.
After Lt. Governor Dan Patrick asked Hidalgo if Harris County needed anything from the state, she said, "We're good." State Senator Paul Bettencourt told KTRH, "Judge Hidalgo has made a fundamental mistake by telling the Lt. Governor that a county the size of Harris doesn't need assistance."
Now Hidalgo is saying that Harris County doesn't have the resources needed to clean up the storm debris across Harris County. Senator Bettencourt said, "It's just more hypocrisy of saying one thing and then doing another. I don't understand it; it's not the response you need."
Bettencourt says the entire community would be better off if she took her emergency management role more seriously.
