It's been over a week now since Hurricane Beryl hit Houston. And while the power problems are thankfully and finally just about over, the fallout for CenterPoint has only just begun.
"Allegations have been made that while Texans have been baking in deadly heat without power, CenterPoint was penny pinching and cutting corners in ways that slowed the recovery process" said Governor Greg Abbott, back from an overseas business trip in Asia.
The energy company admitted that thousands of out-of-town repair crews weren't staged in the Houston area ahead of Hurricane Beryl. It's one of just many questions that need to be answered.
"Those allegations must be investigated" noted Abbott, "We must know, was CenterPoint protecting Texans? Or was it protecting it's own pocketbook?"
Governor Abbott says he is giving CenterPoint until the end of the month to respond to the issues, while also ordering the (PUC) Public Utilities Commission to investigate CenterPoint to find "the reason for failure" and "what must be done to fix it".
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who stepped it up while Abbott was overseas, said it a different way.
"I know everyone at CenterPoint who's in an air-conditioned office is watching" Patrick said, "A freight train is coming, you'd better be prepared."
