After Louisiana beat us to it by signing it into law, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick hopes to pass the '10 Commandments' bill here in Texas.
"It did pass in the Texas senate" said Cameron Abrams, reporter with The Texan, "It was placed on the Texas (House) calendar, but it was not taken up on the floor. So, Dan Patrick is saying he'll pass it again. He passed it during the 88th session, and it seems as though he's planning on bringing it up again."
That is the plan, but Texas shouldn't be second. "It's embarrassing that Louisiana got this out the door before the state of Texas did" said Texas state representative, Steve Toth.
So, will it pass when Texas lawmakers gather next year?
"If Dade Phelan is the speaker again, then this and many other bills including school choice, it will fail" Toth told KTRH, "If Dade Phelan is defeated, we'll pass this bill."
The 89th Texas legislative session is set to begin in January.
