The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to review Tennessee's ban on puberty blockers and transgender surgeries for minors.

The case, U.S. v. Skrmetti, will be argued in the term that starts in October.

It is the first time the high court will consider restrictions on puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery for minors.

Tennessee is one of 22 states that has measures banning such medical intervention for minors.

Last week, South Carolina became the 25th state to adopt a law restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, even though such treatments have been available in the United States for more than a decade and are endorsed by major medical associations.

In 2023, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill that bars transgender kids from getting puberty blockers and hormone therapies. Since then Texas Children's Hospital has come under investigation after two whistleblowers came forward with allegations that Texas Children’s fraudulently billed Medicaid for “transgender procedures.”
