Why Choosing a Running Mate Is Different This Time Around

As speculation continues over who former president Donald Trump is going to select as his running mate, many believe that it's an important pick, especially after the way things ended with former V.P. Mike Pence.

"Oh, it's way more important" said Republican strategist, Matt Locke, "And it's way different because normally you would pick a vice president to help you win votes. Trump doesn't need that."

It's definitely important this time around, but does it really matter who Trump picks?

"It really doesn't" Locke told KTRH, "I mean, in the end of all of it Donald Trump doesn't need a vice president to win any votes, he's already going to do that."

What Trump does need? A V.P. that can keep the 'MAGA' movement moving forward.

"MAGA is it's own deal, right? It's the biggest thing going" noted Locke, "The VP is vital in the fact that you don't need to win a state, you need one that will carry on the movement."

During a recent interview, Trump again mentioned his shortlist which includes Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and J.D. Vance (R-Ohio); Governors Doug Burgum of North Dakota and Ron DeSantis of Florida; and Dr. Ben Carson. Matt Locke believes that Donald Trump Jr. would be a great pick.

Trump says he will announce his pick for VP at next month's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
