Mayor Whitmire and several leaders held a news conference to discuss this year's hurricane season, but also the potential cyclone heading to Houston this week.
In addition to the usual tips for safety and preparedness, interim HPD Chief Larry Satterwhite announced that they now have over 20 high water rescue trucks, and over 30 boats.
Meanwhile, Mayor Whitmire said that almost worse than a storm, is the city's outdated drainage system.
"Many times it's not a storm, but even a 2 inch cloud burst can do some localized flooding" Whitmire said.
The mayor also added that the remaining debris across the area from the last storm is "unacceptable", and he was "shocked" to learn that many multi-service centers in Houston, don't have generators.
