Former President Donald Trump has been found guilty on all 34 counts in the Manhattan business fraud trial related to payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The former President will be sentenced on July 11th.
Trump is the first President to convicted of a criminal offense.
“It’s a rigged trial, a disgrace,” Trump said after the verdict was read. “I’m a very innocent man.”
Trump continued, “We’ll fight the end and we’ll win. This is long from over.”
Reaction is coming in from Texas’ top officials
On X, Attorney General Ken Paxton said, “From the beginning of this sham trial, I stood by President Trump, and my support for him is stronger than ever. As Attorney General of Texas, I will unleash every tool at my disposal to fight this blatant corruption and political persecution spewing from New York and the Biden administration.”
Governor Greg Abbott added, “This was a sham show trial. The Kangaroo Court will never stand on appeal.
Americans deserve better than a sitting U.S. President weaponizing our justice system against a political opponent— all to win an election.
We must FIRE Joe Biden in November.”
Senator John Cornyn added, “This verdict is a disgrace, and this trial should have never happened. Now more than ever, we need to rally around @realdonaldtrump, take back the White House and Senate, and get this country back on track. The real verdict will be Election Day.”
And there was this reaction from Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
”This is a dark day for America.
This entire trial has been a sham, and it is nothing more than political persecution. The only reason they prosecuted Donald Trump is because Democrats are terrified that he will win reelection.
This disgraceful decision is legally baseless and should be overturned promptly on appeal. Any judge with a modicum of integrity would recognize that this entire trial has been utterly fraudulent.”
President Joe Biden posted a fundraising link on to X in response to the conviction, “There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box. Donate to our campaign today.”
