STATEMENT FROM HISD: HISD crews are continuing the repair and recovery work related to Thursday’s severe weather event. As of Saturday evening, May 18, we can report:
- The power has been restored at nearly 200 campuses and those schools will be ready for students on Monday. 77 HISD campuses are still without power. We thank CenterPoint for its ongoing work to restore the electricity at our schools.
- It is still our goal to have every student safely back in school on Monday. However, power must be restored before students can return to their campuses.
- Once a campus has power, HISD crews are checking the HVAC (air conditioning) systems, water, and nutrition services to ensure students can be served safely and comfortably before we make the decision to return the students to that campus.
- By noon tomorrow, Sunday, May 19, we will begin announcing the campuses that will resume classes on Monday. We will provide updates throughout the day tomorrow.
