If you've lived in Houston, you know how blessed we are by the work of our own Shara Fryer.
In 2005, while working for ABC13, Shara did an in-depth report on a photography exhibit at Holocaust Museum Houston. It was titled 'Unlikely Liberators', with photographs of the actual liberation of Nazi death camps...by Japanese American soldiers of the 442nd RCT. Shara received an Emmy award for that story.
On Monday night at the Alley, that story will be told again in a state of the art live performance / presentation called "Defining Courage". The show starts at 6:30pm.
Defining Courage is a journey into the legacy of the Nisei Soldier, Americans of Japanese ancestry who served in the segregated military units of the 100th IB, 442nd RCT, MIS, and 522nd FAB. Considered the greatest fighting units in American military history, most have never heard their extraordinary stories.
Join Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Jeff MacIntyre and ABC7-Los Angeles News Anchor David Ono, as they immerse you into the tragic, yet uplifting world of these heroes who fought prejudice at home and the enemy abroad.
You’ll fly over World War II battlefields in Italy, France, Japan, and Germany, in an unforgettable live Docu-Theatre Experience that includes: Stunning Cinematography, Live Music & Choir, Historic Film and Eyewitness Interviews.
SEE, HEAR, and EXPERIENCE their incredible heroics through this piece of innovative storytelling. Far from a history lesson, it is a testament to inner strength, one that inspires us in our search for courage in today’s world. Again, that's at the Alley, Monday night at 6:30pm.
And if that's not enough, or you can't make the show, you can hear Shara Fryer's conversation with David Ono about 'Defining Courage' on the 'My Heart of Texas' podcast.
