Across most of the southern border, the illegal immigration crisis continues, but here in Texas, encounters with illegal aliens have slowed down. This just goes to show you that the common sense border policies that Gov. Abbott has pushed are working.
Former U.S. Marshal and border security expert Robert Almonte told KTRH, "Deploying the national guard, Texas DPS troopers, it has had an effect on the migrants." Now more illegals are crossing in places like New Mexico and California.
Almonte says this is as simple as choosing the path of least resistance. Even though some people will still try to cross into Texas, most illegal aliens know that if they get caught by Texas border security personnel, they will face consequences.
He says Republicans across the country should follow Texas' lead and implement the same policies that are now a proven success in Texas.
