Hidalgo Issues Evacuation Orders for Parts of Harris County Due to Storms

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced mandatory evacuations near the east fork of the San Jacinto River. The area had been under a voluntary evacuation on Wednesday. 

Voluntary evacuation advisories for several other communities around the San Jacinto River.

Hidalgo also signed a disaster declaration for the county because of the flooding.

Meantime, Houston Mayor John Whitmire says the worst may be yet to come for the city as more rain is expected this afternoon.

Areas like Kingwood have been hit particularly hard by rain and flooding.

The storms today knocked the power out for more than 110,000 CenterPoint customers at one point.

Flash flood warnings in effect for the follow counties;

Northwestern Polk County | Northwestern San Jacinto County | Southern Trinity County | East Central Walker County

Due to rising water levels, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough says they are beginning the process of releasing water from Lake Conroe. He says currently they are releasing 19,000 cubic feet per second, and that rate is going to increase.

Judge Keough says that anyone south of the River Plantation area needs to get to high ground, and do so quickly. Currently, there are no high-water locations reported inside the city of Houston.
