State and federal officials are giving the city of Houston more time to spend some Harvey recovery money.
The city received more than a billion federal dollars to provide affordable housing after the 2017 tropical storm.
When Houston failed to meet the grant program's deadlines, the city was called on to return the money, which had been distributed by the state.
On Wednesday this past week, Mayor John Whitmire announced that the Texas General Land Office and the Department of Housing and Urban Development are giving the city a two-year extension.
