A South Texas state lawmaker is asking Governor Abbott for a disaster declaration as border areas deal with dwindling water supplies.
Edinburg state Representative Terry Canales sent a letter to the governor on Wednesday asking for help.
Canales says there is a water crisis in the region that is hurting farmers and ranchers. Canales also asked the governor to speak with the Biden administration to try to force Mexico to live up to its water obligations.
Mexico owes the United States millions of gallons of water under a treaty signed 80 years ago.
