A major population shift has been occurring throughout the United States for the last several years, resulting in Texas leading the nation in population growth. Of the top ten counties in the United States that saw the most growth last year, six of them were here in Texas.

Texas State demographer Lloyd Potter told KTRH that Texas' population has grown at 1.5%, which is the fastest growth of any state in the union. Most of this growth is centered around the points of the "Texas Triangle," which include the DFW Area, Houston, and the Austin-San Antonio Area. Potter also says that of those three areas, the one with the most growth was the greater Houston area.

Potter says that counties surrounding urban areas like Montgomery and Fort Bend Counties have seen rapid growth. He also says this growth can be attributed to three major factors: domestic migration into Texas, international migration, and the fact that Texas currently has more births than deaths.
