Biden blunders again in false SOTU claims GOP wants social security cut

Most Americans have come to expect massive blunders when President Biden makes any kid of public speaking attempts. But last Thursday at his State of the Union address, he really put his abilities on full display. From mispronouncing Laken Riley's name as 'Lincoln Riley,' to making incoherent rants about January 6th riots and taxing the rich.

But buried in between his partisan-fueled rant was mention of Republicans cutting social security. In fact, he said the GOP wants to do so "Republicans can give more tax breaks to the wealthy." His false accusations were met with boos and yells from Senate and House Republicans during his speech.

Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform says Biden did this because of another section of his speech just before that.

"He did not want to talk about his plan to raise business taxes higher than China's to make us uncompetitive with China," he says. "He said this on national television...but then does not want to discuss it further, so he makes up something about social security."

Now Republicans in the past have definitely voiced desire to reform the system and make some changes. But not to just simply gut the program and start over.

But as much hoopla as there is revolving the subject, no real ideas ever come forward. Former President George W. Bush presented maybe the only real options for saving the program during his two terms in office, which actually made sense.

"He wanted to let people have the option, as they were younger, and have the option to take the FICA taxes and put them into a 401k or IRA," he says.

Former President Donald Trump has also expressed desire to protect the system, in fact, while in the Oval Office. He also called on Republicans in the 118th Congress to never touch Social Security or Medicare. Once again, making what President Biden said false.

This argument and hopes to change the system have been mostly hot air for the better part of two decades now. According to Norquist, the topic won't be going away or fixed soon either.

"It all depends on how desperate the Democrats get...if they are losing, they will yell about social security and Medicare again...which is a sign Republicans are wining on issues...and the Democrats will want to talk about anything else," he says.
