The Houston Police Officers Union confirms to KTRH that two assistant chiefs with the Houston Police Department have been demoted as a result of the fallout from the department’s investigations scandal.

The two chiefs who were demoted are Kevin Deese and Ernest Garcia.

HPD came under fire after it was announced that approximately 264,000 cases, approximately 10% of all of the department’s cases over the last eight years, had been suspended across multiple HPD divisions due to a lack of manpower. Of those cases, over 4,000 were sexual assault cases.

Chief Troy Finner had promised that there would be a news conference this week to update the investigation, but the department posted to social media last night that there would be no news conference.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to KTRH for more details as we get them.
