On paper, Texas Republicans have the majority in the state legislature. But a disturbing new study found that in reality, it's actually the Democrats who control the Texas House of Representatives.
"Concern for the Republican Party in the House, that some of the people that are representing themselves as Republicans are actually philosophically more aligned with the Democratic party" said Fred McGrath, with the Institute for Legal Analysis.
The Texas GOP has the edge in the Texas House 86-64. But when it comes to voting on conservative issues?
"A number of surprises" McGrath told KTRH, "As 20 Republicans actually voted more in line with the Democrat policy position, than the Republican policy position."
That big swing has led to the big divide in Austin. Thankfully, true Republicans are really leading the Texas senate.
"In the Senate, there is better news for Republicans who lined up with traditional titles 18-13" noted McGrath.
Sadly, Texas is one of the leaders in the U.S. for what is called 'fraudulent party identification'. McGrath said voters need to pay attention to lawmakers voting records, and hold them accountable come election time.
