DA Candidate Tells KTRH he'll Recuse County from Hidalgo Staffer Case

As early voting continues in Texas Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg and challenger Sean Teare told Houston's Morning News they are treating the COVID bid rigging scheme involving thee of County Judge Lina Hidalgo's top staffers very differently.

Ogg has gotten the ball rolling in this case, which has turned into a feud with Hidalgo, who has attacked Ogg in public on multiple occasions. And when Sean Teare left Ogg's office to announce a challenge for that job, he got the endorsement of Hidalgo, Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Hidalgo herself.

The incumbent joined Houston's morning News, and was asked if her prosecution of Hidalgo's staffers is why she did not get those indorsements.

"I can't tell you why. I can just tell you that all three were complained on in public corruption complaints, We did our job. We asked independent investigators to look at their cases, and in the case of Line Hidalgo's staff three of them were indicted. We're looking forward to trial," Ogg said.

Teare was also asked about the case, and told KTRH that if he is elected, it would not be prosecuted in Harris County.

"The very first that I'm in office, I am going to recuse myself because it is a political football that has no business being a political issue. I am going to send it to one of our contiguous counties.
