The Freedom Caucus, which has fought for conservative values in the House, is now expanding into state legislatures, leading them to begin trending more conservative.
KTRH spoke with The Texan's Brad Johnson, who said, "We certainly are in a populous moment, and we've seen that especially take root in the Republican Party."
He said the clash between the more conservative Republicans and the traditional GOP goes back to the age-old clash of establishment versus those who aren't in the establishment.
Here in Texas, the Freedom Caucus in our own legislature has seen progress, going from what Johnson calls a "blow things up" kind of organization to having a member serve as a committee chair, and possibly having a second committee chair next session.
Meanwhile, the separate State Freedom Caucus Network has expanded to 160 members in 11 different state legislatures.
