The County Is Giving Out Free Money And It’s Costing -You-

There is more pushback against the Harris County universal income program. Applications are now closed for 'Uplift Harris', but the criticism from conservatives continues.

"It's 100% socialism" said James Quintero with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "The county is taking tax-payer money and funneling it down to private persons in an unconstitutional way."

There were over 76,000 applications submitted for the welfare program, with 1,928 households set to be selected to receive $500 a month for 18 months. Texas lawmakers are trying to get the big Democrat run cities to get back to the basics.

"Progressive local governments are going way beyond where they should, and they need to get reined back in" Quintero told KTRH, "And so what the legislature did is they passed the 'death star bill' to narrow the scope of activities, that cities and counties could engage in."

He says that more will need to be done during the next legislative session. In the meantime, applicants for 'Uplift Harris' will be notified in early March.

The official website also points out that the program hopes to provide a "financial cushion that can help close the wealth gap."
