Pastors Retiring in Increasing Numbers

In larger numbers than you might suspect those standing in the pulpit have considered throwing in the towel. It's worker burnout.

42% of clerics have considered quitting full-time ministry because of burnout.

Many are just burned out on mediating disagreements over politics or pandemics.

"And there are a a lot of great expectations put upon your mortally. There's a lot of pressure to be even more perfect than the average Christian. Any shortcoming in your life seems to be amplified," says Dr. Shannon Holzer, theology professor with Houston Christian University.

A study by Barma Group last year found a sharp increase in resignation consideration in the past year.

According to a Gallup survey, 67% of adults say they attended regularly when they were children, but only 31% go to church on a regular basis today.
