So the arctic blast has moved on, and the first winter freeze is over. So how did the Texas power grid hold up? And what kind of grade should be given to ERCOT?
"A letter grade on ERCOT, call it a B+plus, they did a lot of great things" said Michael Lee, CEO of Houston Based Octopus Energy U.S., "Whether or not our infrastructure to supply the fuel to those power plants are weatherized, I call that probably a C- or D+, because there hasn't been much movement and it feels like that is the biggest risk to the system."
The bottom line is, we still need more fossil fuels, because renewable's are unreliable. And many lawmakers and analysts are wondering, why do we continue to receive conservation warnings every time it gets cold?
"The total usage of the grid over the past couple of days was actually bigger than it was 2 years ago, and that's because so many people and businesses have moved to Texas" Lee told KTRH, "As they look into building more power plants, we are significantly increasing demand every single day as we grow our state."
It's now up to state officials to get back to work, and fix the problem.
