With the first severe winter storm heading to Texas, Governor Greg Abbott held a news conference today with other officials from the state operations center in Austin.
"What people should expect is this will be one of the coldest episodes they will have lived through in the state of Texas" Abbott said, "It will last for several days, but it will not be anything close to what we experienced during winter storm Uri in 2021. And I can emphasize, we are much, much more prepared."
Texas is prepared, but what about the Texas power grid? Aka - ERCOT?
"We believe that the power grid, ERCOT, is going to be able to ensure that power is available through the entirety of this winter storm."
The coldest air is set to arrive on Sunday, and last through Wednesday. The peak hours with a risk of rolling blackouts, will be on Tuesday morning at 8am, and then again on Wednesday morning as well.
ERCOT has updated its weather watch for this cold snap. It now starts on Sunday and runs through Wednesday.
