It's official. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, says he is going to resign from congress at the end of the year.
McCarthy, who was ousted as speaker on October 3rd becoming the first speaker of the House to lose his position in the middle of a term, made the announcement in an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal.
The move is yet another blow to House Republicans, and their narrow majority. Last week, Rep. George Santos was expelled, so Republicans will now have 220 members compared to 213 for Democrats.
The good news is, McCarthy represents a solid Republican district in Bakersfield, CA. So the GOP should be in good shape to keep his seat.
This is a developing story.
