60 Years Ago Today: JFK Was Assassinated, Texas Governor John Connally Shot

It was 60 years ago today that president John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. But what a lot of people forget outside of Texas, is that then Texas Governor John Connally was in the car as well, and was also shot.

Thankfully, Governor Connally survived, but it was his oldest son, John Connally III who represented the family at JFK's funeral.

Robert Connally III recently spoke with our own Shara Fryer, on the 'My Heart Of Texas' podcast, which you can find at KTRH.com

They spoke about that day, and how big it is still today, especially for Baby Boomers.

"Certainly everyone knows where they were that day, and what they were doing, and what they heard, and what they thought" Connally said, "And those memories have not died. Everyone you talk to that's in our generation, remembers very clearly."

And to this day, there is still all of the talk and rumors about a conspiracy theory. But Connally says his father maintained that if there was a cover-up, someone would have spoken up.

"That's what he thought" Connally told Fryer, "He thought that until he died, and mother thought that until she died many years later. And there just never was any evidence other than Oswald."

"Do you think that too?" Fryer asked? "I do" said Connally.

You can hear Shara's full interview with John Connally III, as well as conversations with his two siblings, Sharon and Mark, on the 'My Heart Of Texas' podcast.
