Report: Texas Taxpayers Shell Out $7B A Year to Educate Illegal Aliens

While President Joe Biden's open border policies continue to attract thousands of illegals into Texas each day, taxpayers across the Lone Star State are forced to educate a flood of non-English speaking school children, to the tune of $7 billion a year.

That's according to the Huffines Liberty Institute, which measured a sharp increase is English as a Second Language students.

"With the increasing influx of illegal aliens crossing the border, it makes it more likely that we're going to have the students in the ESL programs are illegal aliens, rather than citizens who are born here, but the children of illegal aliens," says policy analyst Bill Peacock.

Former state senator Don Huffines argues the federal government should reimburse Texas taxpayers.

"Education is the largest expenditure Texas taxpayers bear for illegal immigration, but it certainly isn't the only cost," he says. "We have incarceration, health care costs, law enforcement and other costs that all involve illegal immigration."

"If you add up the total cost, it's tens and tens of billions of dollars, if not hundreds of billions of dollars that Texas taxpayers had to fork out because the federal government won't secure the border."

Huffines wants Texas to eliminate in-state tuition for illegals, and require proof of citizenship for students and their parents, and require Texas schools to report non-citizens.
