Funding Failure: U.S. Pledges Billions More to Ukraine

After 20 months and more than $100 billion in U.S. aid, the Ukraine war effort against Russia appears no better off than the day it began. In fact, things are getting worse. A new report from Time Magazine details the struggles of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as he faces corruption within his government and a military recruiting crisis. At the same time, President Joe Biden is pushing for another $61 billion in U.S. aid to Ukraine, all while continuing his mantra of supporting them "for as long as it takes."

With public support for Ukraine waning, Biden is trying to piggyback the latest Ukraine funding request on top of a much smaller aid package for Israel in its war with Hamas. But critics see right through this. "Even the staunchest warhawks can no longer make a persuasive case for Ukraine," says Fox News host Laura Ingraham. "This is the main reason why they want to combine the $61 billion request for Ukraine with the funding requests for legitimate reasons like Israel and elsewhere."

Republicans in the House have already separated Israel and Ukraine funding, and passed an Israel aid bill paid for with cuts to IRS funding. Another Republican proposal calls for combining a Ukraine aid package with increased border security at home. Or, as Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville recently told Fox News, we should finally look for a realistic endgame. "Right now would be a great time to negotiate over in Ukraine and Moscow to get this thing stopped, because they pretty much are at a stalemate as we speak," says Tuberville. "There's not going to be a lot of fighting happening."

"We've got to get this conflict overwith," he continues. "It's costing the American taxpayers an arm and a leg, and it's costing a lot of lives in Ukraine and Russia. There's no reason to have this."
