Ramsey Blames Colony Ridge for Flooding, Rep. Toth Seeks Conservatorship

Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey will ask for an environmental study on how the Colony Ridge settlement is affecting local waterways.

"Not only in terms of water, but in terms of silt and soil and runoff that's impacting the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. All that ends up in Lake Houston," which he says provides drinking water to 2.2 million people.

The lone Republican on commissioners court is hopeful his colleagues see it as an environmental issue, rather than political.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Attorney General's Office already is investigating.

Meanwhile, Woodlands state Rep. Steve Toth is among those pushing legislation this special session to address various concerns at the colony ridge development, which some believe Mexican cartels are running a distribution hub out of Liberty County.

"My bill calls for Liberty County and Colony Ridge to be put under a conservatorship, meaning the state of Texas will manage the affairs of this area, of this Colony Ridge, until is is cleaned up or cleaned out," Toth told KPRC 2.

Developers argue only a handful of critics have created a political firestorm over Colony Ridge, which has become an international story in recent weeks.
