Texas GOP Adds Pressure on Gov. Abbott to Address Colony Ridge

The Republican Party of Texas is putting pressure on Austin to address the Colony Ridge settlement, while liberal media outlets label it a "right-wing lightning rod."

"We've heard from Greg Abbott that he's going to call a special session on this. And we will be monitoring very closely, the proceedings of Dan Patrick, who said he's going to have a hearing on this in the Texas Senate. And of course, any of the legislation that is filed," says Chris Russo at Texans for Strong Borders.

"When this story went from immigration-type circles or a local story, and it was elevated then to a national and international story, a different degree of pressure has been put on our state politicians."

Gov. Abbott told the House and Senate to prepare for a third special session to begin October 9, but has yet to set the agenda

There are reports the Mexican cartels have taken over Colony Ridge, which developers strongly dispute.

"Greg Abbott himself has said that he sent in DPS to bust a cartel operation in Colony Ridge a couple of years ago," says Russo. "It just stands to reason whenever you have a type of owner-finance loan scheme that doesn't require any sort of traditional credit check or government ID."
