Houston will host the Republican National Convention in 2028

The RNC has selected Houston to host the Republican Convention in 2028. The city beat out Miami and Nashville, who were also competing to host the 2028 convention.

"It's time that we start having these conventions in friendly states where we can get a good launch on to the general election," RNC Committeeman Robin Armstrong said.

Houston will benefit from the added economic impact of the convention. And it will help in other ways, too.

"It's going to be great for the city. It will bring a lot of excitement. It will help Republicans in Houston and Harris County," Armstrong explained.

The convention in 2024 will be in Milwaukee, site of this week's first GOP debate.

Ironically, Houston lost out to Chicago for next year's Democrat Party convention.

Harris County GOP Chair Cindy Siegel released a statement praising the selection of Houston as the 2028 host city.

“Houston is a world-class city — it’s one of the most diverse cities in the country, is the energy capital of the United States, and most importantly, is an accurate reflection of our nation as a whole, something that most cities cannot say.

“All that to say, I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome the RNC to Harris County. From this decision, it’s clear they recognize the importance of our community and the opportunity Republicans have to retake control here locally and increase our reach as a Party statewide and nationally.”
