Houston's Coming Fiscal Crisis

Chances are, you are not going to hear this on the local news. Houston's outgoing City Controller, Chris Brown, is warning of a looming budget crisis.

"The outgoing City Controller let it be known that in two years from now, the city of Houston is potentially facing a $300 million dollar structural budget deficit" said James Quintero with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "That will force spending cuts, higher taxes, or some combination of both."

Plus, there could also be massive layoffs.

Houston's local leaders burned through over $1 billion dollars in federal money, stealing a page from the D.C. Democrats.

"There's no question progressive's dominate the Houston City Council" Quintero told KTRH, "And what that means for the city budget is big government ideas embedded within the budget structure, dealing with things like climate change, DEI, and other 'social justice' non-sense."

This is 8th consecutive fiscal year that Houston has adopted a budget that spends more than is taken in, and Quintero and the TPPF is calling for a 3rd party audit, before the crisis hits in 2025.
