A very small percentage of people can claim perfect health, though advances in medical science and understanding of how the body works have grown exponentially. Scientists peg perfect health to only about three percent of the population.
Author Patricia Greenberg says the secret of success is in eating well, moving as much as you can, and getting a very good night’s sleep. With all the fads that have come and gone regarding diet, a good diet filled with colorful foods is the magic sauce.
The most essential element is a good night’s rest, and that’s going to take about seven or eight hours a day.
Greenberg speaks in her book Eat Well, Live Well, Age Well of the "Blue Zones," the five regional areas that can boast of high levels of longevity where people live to be the oldest, among them Okinawa, Costa Rico, and the Seventh Day Adventists gathered around Loma Linda, California. They all have traits in common. Move naturally us at the top of the list. It doesn't require gym membership, the number of steps you take in a day, of how many minutes daily you devote to exercise: it's incorporating movement in daily activities you participate in. Second is having a life of purpose. Reduce stress. Only satisfy 80% of the food you are craving, focus on veggies, don't drink to excess. And create a supportive community in your friendships and family relations.
