A Job Fair for Veterans Today

There is a free job for veterans today at Minute Maid Park.

As of May, the veteran unemployment rate is 2.6%, up from 2.2% in April. RecruitMilitary says those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces bring several skill sets essential to private business:

  • Veterans possess skills from military training that are embedded into their work ethic; non-veteran job candidates must learn these skills upon employment.
  • Veterans are easily adaptable and accustomed to wearing many hats - trained to adapt quickly & efficiently.
  • Veterans understand how to navigate the political climate in a corporate structure following years of structured employment within the military ranks.

While employment of veterans is working, RecruitMilitary also focuses on the growth and change of the professional status of employed veterans.

Carol Hymes, Director and Outreach Program Coordinator with Recruit Military, who is also a military veteran, says if you haven’t already registered you can sign up at the door. Enter Minute Maid at the Clock Tower Entrance off the Diamond Lot (off Texas Street). There is plenty of free parking available in Lot A.

Hymes suggests all veterans maintain their profile at RecruitMilitary.com.

More than 75 companies are participating, “Altech Industries will be there; Air Streams; Renewable; Deer Company; General Dynamics; First Command; The Marriott; it’s a laundry list. We have an abundance of representation,” says Hymes.

The hours for the job fair are 11am to 3 pm.

Last year RecruitMilitary hosted 85 veteran career fairs.
