Another Hurricane Season Starts Today – What To Expect

The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season kicks off today, and the good news is, the experts and meteorologists at NOAA are predicting it to be 'near normal'. The bad news?

"Even in less active seasons, or seasons that aren't as busy, it only takes one storm to impact your area for it to be a bad season" said Jeff Lindner with the Harris County Flood District, "So, we always encourage everybody to prepare every year, regardless."

And what is the best way to prepare?

"Make a plan, build a kit, and stay informed" said Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, "Of those 3, certainly staying informed is very important. It's got to be credible sources, such as this station."

The forecast is calling for 12-17 named storms, and 5-9 could become hurricanes. Of those, 1-4 could be CAT 3 or higher.

"There will be hurricanes in 2023" Judge Henry told KTRH, "We just don't know where they're going to hit, how powerful they'll be, and how much damage they will do."
