The 88th Texas Legislative Session Ends On Monday

It's the final weekend of the 88th Texas Legislative Session in Austin. And according to some reports, we could be in store for a wild finish.

"The big issue that we're all watching right now" said reporter Holly Hansen, with The Texan, "Is whether or not the House will affirm a late amendment to a House Bill on teacher pay, that would bring back 'school choice' measures the Governor has vowed to pass this session."

If it doesn't pass, Governor Greg Abbott has vowed to call a special session later this year. The other big question is, why have so many Texas Republicans acted to soft? Especially with their majority, and a solid 'to-do' list from voters?

"You still have the House membership voting to elect a speaker (Dade Phelan) who pretty much controls what's happening there, and he does need the support of Democrats typically to get elected" Hansen told KTRH, "So, it does get a little bit softer on the House side, even though Republicans have a majority there."

This weekend in Austin will also include a final push on property taxes, the power grid, and we'll see if anything happens with Attorney General Ken Paxton.
