January is already over, but if you feel like we're off to a bad start with crime here in 2023? You are not alone, and you are not wrong.
Here in Houston, there were 33 homicides last month, which of course averages out to at least one murder every single day.
"The numbers are pretty shocking, I was surprised to hear that we had 33 homicides for the month of January just starting out the new year" said Doug Griffith, president of the Houston Police Officers Union, "I was hoping for a new year, new you type of thing for Houston, but apparently that didn't happen."
One thing that did happen last week here in Houston, 3 masked men fired 70 shots at 2 men in a car in has station, in broad daylight.
"That looked to me like a gang hit" Griffith told KTRH, "Obviously they were heavily armed, and they proceeded to basically execute those guys. That's the kind of stuff you see in Mexico, or some these third world countries. There was absolutely zero fear of them being apprehended at that point in time."
In addition to the Democrats 'defund the police' push, and their demonization of law enforcement, Houston is currently short around 2,000 officers. Something they hope will change here in 2023, along with all of the crime that has surged over the last few years under this current leadership.
