Ongoing Concerns in MUD 70

Parents in Westgate, Yaupon Ranch, Paddock, and Remington Grove subdivisions in NW Harris County have to be alarmed to hear of the threat to their children in the tap water.

Residents of Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 70 are advised that their water may contain high levels of lead.

According to the DCD, "exposure to lead can seriously harm a child's health, including damage to the brain and nervous system, slowed growth and development, learning and behavior problems, and hearing and speech problems."

Officials say tests between June and September indicated high levels of lead in three of the 20 samples. Tests conducted last month show lead below action levels.

Residents are advised that boiling water won't remove lead, but a water filter would help. Running water for 15 to 30 seconds will flush lead from the plumbing.

More tests are planned for next year.
