Young people today aren't excited about jumping into marriage or parenthood.
Multiple studies and surveys find Gen Zers and millennials are reluctant to have children of their own. The reasons range from health concerns to simply not wanting to be responsible for raising a child. Financial expert Bill Dendy believes money is also a key factor.
“[There’s] uncertainty about social security and other benefits that previous generations may have taken for granted, such as pension plans, this generation is saying ‘adding a child adds so much more cost,’” Dendy said.
Birth rates continue to decline across the country. The nation's overall birth rate fell 4% in 2020, the largest single-year decrease in almost 50 years.
