The City of Austin is ready to test a pilot program that would give residents facing extreme hardship a monthly allowance for a year.
The guaranteed income program would give one-thousand dollars to those most vulnerable in the community. That includes families facing eviction and those recently homeless.
A total of 85 people were selected to participate in the program.
The city's Equity Office noted that more details about how the participants were selected could be revealed when the program goes before the city council April 21st.
