The National Association of Realtors finds that of 6.3 million new homeowners in the past decade, almost 900,000 were middle class earners. Three of the nation’s top 5 cities for middle income earners are in Texas.
Middle class income, according to the NAR, includes people making 80% to 120% of the area’s median income. In 2010 45% of homeowners were in the middle class category. In 2020 it had dropped to 43%. The number of people in the middle class category dropped from 78.1% in 2010 to 69.7%.
The top market was the Phoenix-Scottsdale-Mesa, Arizona area.
The Austin-Round Rock area was number 2, adding 63,000 new homeowners.
Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington was fourth, adding 53,000.
The Houston-Sugar Land-The Woodlands area was number five, adding 52,000 homeowners.
