The first trailer for the upcoming film Madden starring Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage as late Pro Football Hall of Famer and Oakland Raiders coach John Madden was released on Thursday (December 25).
Amazon MGM Studios debuted the trailer during its Prime Video broadcast of the game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs and shared it on several social media platforms. The film, which is set to be released on Thanksgiving 2026 (November 26), will also star Christian Bale as late Raiders owner and Pro Football Hall of Famer Al Davis; Kathryn Hahn as Madden's wife, Virginia Fields; Sienna Miller as Davis' late wife Carol; Joel Murray as late Hall of Fame broadcaster Pat Summerall; and comedian Shane Gillis in a role that hasn't yet been named, according to IMDb.com.
Cage and Bale were first seen in full character in a photo shared by Amazon MGM Studios on May 13.
"Your first-look at Nicolas Cage as John Madden and Christian Bale as Al Davis on set of the upcoming film, Madden. Production is currently underway," Amazon MGM Studios wrote in the post shared on its Instagram at the time.
"The film follows Maddenâs remarkable journeyâfrom his Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history," the caption continued.
Madden, who died in December 2021, led the Raiders to a Super Bowl XI victory over the Minnesota Vikings in 1977 and retired in 1978 with a 103-32-7 career coaching record and a 76.3% winning percentage, the highest in NFL history. The Minnesota native went on to a legendary broadcasting career as the first NFL color analyst to contribute to all four major networks: CBS (1979-93), FOX (1994-2001), ABC (2002-05) and NBC (2006-08), before retiring ahead of the 2008 season and was immortalized as the namesake for EA Sports popular NFL video game franchise, initially lending his voice and likeness to the series in 1988.
