Former Major League Baseball pitcher Juan Jaime has reportedly died at the age of 37 after suffering a heart attack, ESPN's Héctor Gómez reports.
"Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Juan Jaime died due a heart attack at the age of 37," Gómez wrote on his X account last Friday (December 27).
Jaime appeared in 18 games for the Atlanta Braves during the 2014 and 2015 MLB seasons, going 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA, 19 strikeouts, nine earned runs allowed and 13 walks in 13.2 innings pitched. The Dominican native also pitched professionally for the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan in 2016.
Jaime initially signed with the then-Montreal Expos, right before their official rebranding and relocation as the Washington Nationals, at the end of 2004. The right-hander pitched in the Nationals' farm system from 2006-09, but dealt with several career-derailing injuries.
Jaime was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks, but never made an appearance for the franchise at any level as he missed the entire 2010 and 2011 seasons due to Tommy John surgery. The Dominican returned to pitching for the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Braves' High-A team at the time, in 2012 and was eventually promoted to the majors, making his debut against the Nationals on June 20, 2014.
